Project Summary

  • Wildlife scientists often collect image or video data to better understand the population sizes and distributions of important species to provide information to policymakers and stewards of natural resources.
  • In this project, we propose to demonstrate that the performance and efficiency of monitoring animals from image data can be improved using machine learning techniques such as deep neural networks.
  • The project outcome will decrease the workload of scientists who have to sift through the large amount of data to detect or identify the animals.
