Inspired by the exponential proliferation of mobile devices of different form factor, this project enables context-aware visual analytics on mobile devices to support real-time intelligent decision making. Visual analytics tools are resource-intensive and pose significant challenges on resource-constrained environments (e.g., mobile devices). This project leverages cloud/edge computing to support mobile visual analytics through computation offloading. Sophisticated visual analytics algorithms will run on the backend server running on NSF Chameleon cloud infrastructure and send a JSON-encoded file to a mobile device to render visualization.
We will develop a context management platform on mobile devices to support both the decision making on the backend as well the front-end rendering based on runtime context attributes. We will develop a prototype that demonstrates the utility of mobile visual analytics in healthcare domain. However, techniques and algorithms that will be developed will be generic and applicable elsewhere.
